Silver Sunday

Please Adopt Silver Sunday - 7th October 2012

The aim of Silver Sunday is to cement one day in the annual calendar to show appreciation for the value and
contribution of older people in our lives

Westminster City Council is piloting Silver Sunday in London in partnership with Hammersmith and Fulham, and Kensington and Chelsea Councils. The idea has already spread and there are various events happening throughout the country.

The Councils are organising a number of free events for our older residents and are encouraging community groups and individuals to put their creativity to the test to celebrate the older people in their lives.

We are asking schoolchildren to make a card for their grannies and grandpas or an elderly neighbour, in the hope that this will spur themon to take notice of the older generation on a regular basis.

This will all help end crippling loneliness, which affects a quarter of the older population in the UK .
Please help spread the word and consider taking action to fight the social isolation experienced by so many of our parents and grandparents.

Remember
-
it can be as simple as putting the kettle on!

We want this initiative to go "viral", so if you could write to anyone
you know in the Media and to some of your friends to encourage them
to back it, we would be incredibly grateful.

Consultation on Westminster Hospitals

You may have heard that NHS North West London is consulting on plans to reconfigure major hospitals in the area. This may result in hospitals being downgraded and services being moved such as the Western Eye Hospital and Acute Stroke Services moving into St. Mary's Hospital and the risk of Chelsea and Westminster Hospital being downgraded.

We therefore want to make sure that local people have their say on these proposals and are represented in the consultation results. The meeting is a chance to hear from the NHS and local hospitals, consider your views on the proposals and give your feedback.

If you are unable to attend but would like to have your say, you can respond to the consultation at http://www.healthiernorthwestlondon.nhs.uk/have-your-say by the consultation deadline of Monday 8th October.

Date: Monday 1st October

Time: 6-8pm

Venue: Westminster Academy, Green Lecture Room, The Naim Dangoor Centre, 255 Harrow Road, London, W2 5EZ (Paddington or Royal Oak stations or 18/36 buses).See streetmap http://bit.ly/PYHdxI for directions.
